Culture, here in the Bregenzerwald, is first and foremost an integral part of ordinary working life. Everyday practical culture, rooted in centuries of still living tradition. In the clothes we wear and in the skilled handcraft trades. These aspects of the region’s daily life are steeped in a cultural context of legend and ritual passed down through many generations. The traditional Bregenzerwald costume (for women) and Bregenzerwald Alpine cheese are fine examples of this ancient regional culture. Bregenzerwald tradition is a rich humus with a way of producing rather special cultural experiences. Idiosyncratic they may be, the men and women of the Bregenzerwald, but their ideas are good.
